History
The Old Market House in Goliad was built about 1871 as a public market with rental stalls for meat and produce sellers, on land dedicated for public use in 1853. It became a firehouse in 1886, housing a meeting hall and fire equipment, and served the volunteer fire company until 1964. Restored in 1967 as a museum, it was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1968 and entered the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
