History
Now known as the Sherman Museum, this institution was founded in 1976 as the Red River Historical Museum by civic-minded citizens concerned about the loss of local heritage. It is housed in Sherman's former public library, a 1914 building funded by the Carnegie Foundation and one of the few remaining Carnegie library buildings in Texas. Its exhibits cover the region's Native American heritage, the Texas Revolution, the Civil War, the railroad and oil industries, and the development of Grayson County.
