History

The Foster House near Navasota was built in 1859 by wealthy cotton planter Malcolm Camp using lumber hauled from East Texas sawmills, in an early Texas plantation style with high-ceilinged rooms, a formal sandstone-lined cellar dining room, and a detached kitchen. It was purchased in 1883 by leading local citizen R. B. S. Foster and remained occupied by Fosters or their agents until 1966. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
