Organized May 19, 1861, by elders N. T. Byars and George W. Baines. The Rev. Mr. Baines was the great-grandfather of the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson.

History

Plantersville Baptist Church in Grimes County was organized in May 1861 with twenty members and the Rev. N. T. Byars as its first pastor. The congregation initially worshiped in a schoolhouse and shared a Masonic building with local Methodists before completing its own building, dedicated in 1872 at a cost paid in gold. The church was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1967.
