History

Oakwood Cemetery is the municipal cemetery of Hamilton, occupying roughly 30 acres north of town along US 281. Its best-known grave belongs to William 'Brushy Bill' Roberts, who late in life claimed to be the outlaw Billy the Kid; after his death in nearby Hico in 1950, he was buried here, and in 2005 a granite arch inscribed 'Billy the Kid' was placed over the plot. The cemetery also holds many of Hamilton's pioneer families.
