History

The Humble Museum opened as the Humble Bicentennial Museum in 1976 and moved to its newest location in November 2020. It tells the story of the Humble and Lake Houston area, which became an oil boomtown after the first oil was discovered in 1904 and the first gusher came in on January 8, 1905; by 1905 the Humble oilfield was the biggest producer in Texas, and the Humble Oil Company founded there grew into ExxonMobil.
