History
The National Museum of Funeral History was founded in 1992 by Robert L. Waltrip, founder of Service Corporation International, who wanted to preserve the heritage of the death-care profession. Its 35,000-square-foot building holds the country's largest collection of funeral-service artifacts, ranging from a fleet of vintage hearses to displays on ancient Egyptian funerary customs. The museum's signature exhibit, 'Celebrating the Lives and Deaths of the Popes,' was developed in collaboration with the Vatican beginning in 2005.
