History
Roberts Cemetery, sometimes called the Old Roberts Burial Ground, lies near Hockley in the New Kentucky community that Abraham Roberts, a member of Stephen F. Austin's colony, named after settling there in the late 1820s. Roberts, who died in 1850, is believed to be its first burial, and the ground was opened for community use later that decade; two acres were formally deeded to the community in 1919. The Roberts Cemetery Association, formed in 1971, has cared for the grounds, which held more than 250 marked graves by the late 1990s, and the Texas Historical Commission placed a marker here in 1998.
