History

The Harrison County Historical Museum was established in 1964 inside the old Harrison County Courthouse on Peter Whetstone Square in Marshall. The 1900 courthouse, designed by prominent architect J. Riely Gordon after an earlier building burned in 1899, is a Neo-Italian Renaissance Revival landmark with a dramatic interior rotunda. The museum's collection spans from the Caddo culture and the history of Wiley College to artifacts such as an inaugural gown worn by Lady Bird Johnson and George Foreman's world championship boxing belt.
