History
The First Presbyterian Church of Marshall grew from the county's first Presbyterian congregation, organized in January 1845 by Rev. James Gallaher with fourteen members. Fundraising for a permanent building began in 1851 but was delayed by financial trouble and the Civil War, and the present Gothic Revival sanctuary was finally built in 1883-1884 under Major John F. Dickson and Marshall architect William Forslund. Constructed largely of native pine with colored cathedral glass, the church received a Texas historical marker in 1963.
