History

Scottsville Cemetery, long regarded as one of the most beautiful private cemeteries in Texas, was founded by planter William Thomas Scott, who settled in Harrison County in 1840 and established several cotton plantations. It holds graves reaching back to the early 1800s, a Confederate memorial just outside the gate, and the stone Youree Chapel that Peter and Betty Scott Youree dedicated in 1904 in memory of their young son. The cemetery and neighboring Scott home are maintained by a family foundation.
