History
The Wittliff Collections is an archive, museum, and research center on the seventh floor of the Albert B. Alkek Library at Texas State University in San Marcos. Bill and Sally Wittliff founded it in 1986 as the Southwestern Writers Collection with a gift of J. Frank Dobie's papers; a Southwestern and Mexican photography collection followed in 1996 and a Texas Music Collection in 2017. A major 2020 expansion brought the center to 15,000 square feet, with galleries including one devoted to the film Lonesome Dove.
