History
Kirby, also spelled Kerby, was an agricultural community about five miles southwest of Hillsboro in central Hill County. The land was originally granted to Henry Ross, who became a Texas citizen in the 1840s; Robert Moore Duff established a large spread there in 1881, and the Beavers family settled nearby in 1882, operating a grocery and post office. The community also had a blacksmith shop and cotton gin, and its school served students from 1906 until 1938, when it consolidated with Hillsboro and Abbott.
