History
Abbott Cemetery, north of the town of Abbott in Hill County, carries a Historic Texas Cemetery designation and contains roughly 169 recorded burials maintained by the Abbott Cemetery Association. The town it serves was founded in 1881 when the Missouri, Kansas & Texas (Katy) Railroad built a line through the area, naming the new stop for Joseph Abbott, a Hill County lawyer and U.S. congressman. The cemetery chronicles generations of area residents, including many Czech settlers who were prominent in the county.
