History
The core of this building is a 16-foot-square single-pen log house built in 1858 by Austin Newton Yeats, a skilled 'house joiner,' on Lambert Branch in what became Hood County. By 1882 the Duke family enclosed the original cabin within a larger frame dwelling, and after being rediscovered in the mid-1970s the log house was found remarkably well preserved. It now operates at 214 North Crockett Street as the Yeats-Duke 1858 Working Museum, with one room furnished in period style and the rest given to local artisans.
