Houston County's fifth courthouse, built in Crockett in 1939, is a Moderne-style limestone building designed by Houston architect Blum E. Hester and constructed with Public Works Administration funding by Dallas's Eckert-Fair Construction Company. Its cornerstone, laid in July 1939, held artifacts donated by local citizens, including photographs, a copy of the New Testament, and a fountain pen. The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
