History

Conner Cemetery sits on land once owned by the Frederick Conner family near Kennard in eastern Houston County, in a community whose residents farmed and worked for the 4-C sawmill at the turn of the twentieth century. Hannah McKinney Conner selected the site and became its first marked burial in 1859, and Margaret Conner, who died in 1860, was also laid to rest here. The grounds include roughly four unmarked graves believed to be those of enslaved people.
