History

Built in 1919 for a county carved from El Paso County two years earlier, the Hudspeth County Courthouse at Sierra Blanca is the only surviving adobe courthouse in Texas. El Paso architect Bradford Hardie designed the single-story building with 18-inch adobe-and-stucco walls made from brick formed on site, blending Spanish Eclectic and Mediterranean Classical Revival styles. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and restored in 2002-2004 through the THC's Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.
