History

Sonara (Sonora) Cemetery in northern Hunt County stands near where the old Sonora Church and School once stood; its first grave, that of S.B. McBee, dates to 1872, and the burial ground had grown to its present size by 1880. A Texas state historical marker was placed at the cemetery in 1984.
