History

Graves Cemetery, about six miles north of Jacksboro, sits on roughly two fenced acres given by J. T. Graves, who is buried there and for whom it is named. Its oldest marked grave is that of R. C. Dunlap, dated February 8, 1881 — few settlers lived north of Jacksboro before then because of Indian raids — and families still gather for an annual "Cemetery Working Day" with dinner on the ground.
