History

Menefee Cemetery is the family burial ground of pioneer settler John Sutherland Menefee (1813–1884), located near the Navidad River outside Edna in Jackson County. Menefee was an early Texas merchant and soldier who settled in the area, and in 1936 the Texas Centennial Commission erected a granite monument at his grave. The small cemetery preserves the graves of the Menefee family, among the county's founding settlers.
