History
Stephen Williams (1760-c.1839) was a veteran of the American Revolution and the War of 1812 who settled in Bevil's Settlement in Jasper County after receiving a Mexican land grant. In November 1835, at about age 75, he took up his rifle for the Siege of Bexar, serving alongside a son-in-law and four grandsons. He was later reinterred in the State Cemetery, and a Texas Centennial monument marks his original grave.
