History

The Museum of the Gulf Coast is a 39,000-square-foot, two-story museum in Port Arthur that interprets the history of the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast, from paleontology and Native American life through European contact, the Civil War, and the petroleum industry. Its second floor honors internationally recognized musicians and athletes from the region, most prominently Port Arthur native Janis Joplin. The Music Hall of Fame features more than 80 artists and displays a reproduction of Joplin's famous psychedelic Porsche.
