History

Pace Cemetery is part of the larger Sabine Pass Cemetery, the oldest continually used burial ground in Jefferson County, which has served the Sabine Pass community since the 1840s. The present site is a combination of five once-separate family and community plots, including the Pace family ground, and its earliest documented grave is that of 12-year-old John A. Dashiell, who died in 1847. Those interred here include War of 1812 soldiers, Texas Revolution veterans, and victims of the deadly 1886 Sabine Pass hurricane.
