History

Round Mound Cemetery is one of the oldest burial grounds in Jones County, taking its name from a nearby mound and linked to the former Round Mound settlement near Deadman Creek. In October 1889 landowners W.T. and Mrs. Connolly formally designated the two-acre plot a cemetery, and Hinton and Rachel Manly added an acre in 1896. Its earliest marked graves date to 1882, an early-1900s tabernacle sheltered mourners during funerals, and a Texas Historical Commission marker was placed in 2009.
