History

The New Bremen Cemetery is the chief survivor of New Bremen, a farming community of largely German descent settled around 1900 about five miles southwest of Karnes City. The community once had two schools, in which some instruction before World War I was given in German, and a nearby Germania Hall for dances and social events, but by 1990 only the cemetery and the shell of its last school remained.
