History

Gossett Cemetery lies in the Gossett community of southeastern Kaufman County, a settlement that took shape in the early 1900s and was named for M. H. 'Ham' Gossett, a landowner and popular state legislator of the 1890s. By 1914 the town had a cotton gin, a gristmill and two general stores, and a post office operated there from 1913 to 1925. The community largely disappeared after Cedar Creek Reservoir was completed in 1965, leaving the cemetery as one of its principal reminders.
