History
The Otto Brinkmann House in Comfort was built in 1861 by German immigrant carpenter Otto Brinkmann, who had trained as a cabinetmaker in Westphalia before emigrating in 1852. It is a one-story, two-room house of fachwerk construction, a German timber-framing method using diagonal corner bracing, with cypress corner posts joined by mortise-and-tenon joints. A framed lean-to was added along the rear in 1899. The house was named a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1976 and listed on the National Register in 1977.
