History

This marker at Fort Clark near Brackettville honors the post's Officers' Club Open Mess, a two-story stone-and-tile building that served the fort from 1939 to 1944 and was named Dickman Hall for cavalry officer Maj. Gen. Joseph T. Dickman. Its ground floor held a lounge, dining room, and guest quarters, while the upper floor contained a large ballroom. After the Army's departure the building became guest-ranch headquarters and later a restaurant for the Fort Clark Springs Association, and the Texas Historical Commission placed the marker in 2010.
