History

Lee Cemetery, also known as Roxton Cemetery, dates to the frontier settlement of northern Lamar County. Herbert J. Lee of Virginia had moved to the area by 1859, and the earliest recorded burial was one-year-old Georgiannia W. Derrick, who died in 1860 and was laid to rest on the Lee property. The Texas Historical Commission awarded the cemetery a Historic Texas Cemetery marker in 2000.
