History

This Gothic Revival brick church was built in 1918 in Sweet Home, a rural community settled by Catholic Bohemian farmers who formed their own parish in 1895. Its interior was painted by Fred Donecker, with wooden columns marbled in ochre and brown, a pressed-metal ceiling, and a mural of the Ascension of Christ. One of the Painted Churches of Texas, it was added to the National Register in 1983.
