History

The Lee County Heritage Center in Giddings occupies the two-story Greek Revival home built in 1879 by merchant August W. Schubert, a member of the nearby Serbin Wendish colony. Schubert sold the house in 1894 to the Missouri Synod, and it served as Concordia Lutheran College until 1900 before Texas legislator Bylis J. Fletcher's family occupied it through much of the 20th century. The center's collections range from early Native American inhabitants to the present, including a military room of Lee County veterans' artifacts.
