History
This marker near Giddings commemorates the King's Highway, or El Camino Real, the Spanish royal road that crossed present Lee County on its way between the Rio Grande and the Sabine River. Blazed in the late 1600s, it became the main artery for trade and immigration into Texas. From 1915 to 1918 the Daughters of the American Revolution and the State of Texas set 123 pink granite markers along the route surveyed by engineer V. N. Zively.
