History
Big Hill Cemetery was established in December 1888 when J. E. Barron deeded four acres to trustees Sam Adair and Sam Davis, with local citizens contributing the $32 purchase price. The first burial was 18-year-old Nannie Davis, who died the same month. The cemetery is the enduring landmark of the Big Hill community, a Limestone County settlement organized around its Methodist church in the 1880s, and it holds veterans of conflicts from the Civil War through Vietnam.
