History

A German Methodist congregation was organized in Castell, one of the earliest churches in Llano County, on March 8, 1856. Rev. Charles A. Grote, a German immigrant who came to Texas in 1845, was a key early leader, and in 1871 a picket house was built to serve as church and parsonage. A stone sanctuary followed in 1880 with a steeple added in 1891, and the congregation took the name Trinity Methodist Church in 1939 after merging with the Hoersterville church.
