History

The Schluter House at 602 East Taylor Street was built in 1856 by Frederick Augustus (F. A.) Schluter, one of Jefferson's first settlers, who chose the elevated corner lot to stay above river flooding. The three-story Colonial home retains its original double doors and longleaf-pine floors and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
