History

These graves at the foot of Todd Mountain in Mason County mark the site where, in December 1864, the family of pioneer county clerk George W. Todd was attacked by Comanches while traveling toward Mason. Mrs. Dizenia Todd and an enslaved girl were killed and daughter Alice Todd was carried off, never to be found; the two victims were buried nearby in unmarked graves, and a Texas historical marker was placed at the site in 1974.
