History

The Maverick County Courthouse in Eagle Pass was completed in 1885 to a design by architects James Wahrenberger and Albert Beckmann that blends Romanesque Revival and Second Empire styling, its crenellation giving it the look of a border fortress. Local builder William Hausser erected the courthouse and jail for a total of about $20,489, and the clock tower still holds its original E. Howard works and bell. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the courthouse underwent a major Texas Historical Commission restoration completed in 2005.
