History
The Praetorian Building at 601 Franklin Avenue in Waco was built in 1915 by Hughes O'Rourke Construction to house the Praetorian Insurance Company, a fraternal insurance organization. Designed by the Dallas firm of C. W. Bulger & Co. in the Chicago School or Modern style with a Mission-style parapet, its seven stories made it one of the first skyscrapers in Central Texas. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 26, 1984 and today contains apartments, retail, and office space.
