History

Harris Creek Cemetery, near McGregor in southwestern McLennan County, grew out of the Harris Creek community settled in the 1850s by the Haley, Crain, Caufield, and Jones families. Its older graves include that of Patience Crain, dated 1869, and in 1872 Aquilla and Delilah 'Dillie' Jones formally set aside 1.5 acres for a burial ground, church, and schoolhouse. Both land donors are buried here, and the site carries a Texas historical marker.
