History
This red-brick opera house at 206 Commercial in Devine was built in 1906 by lumber dealer and contractor George T. Briscoe, Sr., across from the railroad depot. It hosted traveling troupes of stage players and later passed to Briscoe's nephew, Judge Joe E. Briscoe. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, the building later housed a Winn's variety store and today is occupied by a bank.
