History

Saints Cyril and Methodius Cemetery serves the Czech Catholic parish at Marak, a Moravian immigrant community settled in the early 1880s in northwest Milam County and named for pioneer Frantisek (Frank) Marak. The Kubecka family donated land for a Catholic church and school in 1889, and the parish church, named for the patron saints of the Moravian immigrants, was built in 1904 and dedicated in 1905, with the adjoining cemetery serving the surrounding Czech farm families ever since.
