History

The Port Sullivan African American Cemetery lies next to the historic Port Sullivan Cemetery, the oldest cemetery in Milam County, tied to the Brazos River town platted by Augustus W. Sullivan around 1851. Established on a separate deed, this segregated Black burial ground holds graves dating from about 1912 and today survives as scattered, individually maintained family plots.
