History

North Brown Cemetery in Mills County takes its name from North Brown Creek, which guided early home seekers into the area. Burials began about 1857 after a death at a nearby campsite, and by the 1870s the North Brown farming community had grown up around the graves. In 1895 local leaders A.A. Boulter, G.M. O'Quin, and J.S. Weatherby secured a deed to the land and organized the North Brown Cemetery Association, which also held church and school services at an adjacent schoolhouse. Pioneer families continue to be buried here.
