History

The Scott-Majors House at 425 Chestnut Street in Colorado City, built in 1882-1883, was the town's first brick house, its bricks made locally from clay found along the Colorado River and constructed by Colonel J. P. Hodgson. It was bought in 1884 by banker Winfield Scott, who enlarged and redecorated it, and in 1902 by jeweler J. P. Majors, whose family kept it until 1973 before it was restored to its turn-of-the-century character. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, it is also known as Heritage House.
