History

Bay's Chapel Cemetery in northern Montgomery County was founded by settlers from Tennessee, notably the Thomas Bay family, who in 1851 built a log church and school across the road on land donated by A. F. Bay. The burial ground holds roughly 500 graves, the earliest dating to about the 1860s, and was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1967.
