History
Whiteflat Cemetery, established in 1913, marks the site of Whiteflat, a Motley County community that began as a line camp on the sprawling Matador Ranch and took its name from the white needlegrass covering the prairie. The town once had a school, gin, churches, and post office but faded through the Depression and Dust Bowl years, its post office closing in 1966. The cemetery received a Historic Texas Cemetery designation in 2024.
