History

This cemetery serves Northfield, a small community in northeastern Motley County first known as Bitter Lake. Storekeeper D. Cook renamed the settlement for his Minnesota hometown and became its postmaster in 1890, and the burial ground grew alongside the ranching families who settled the surrounding country before 1900.
