History
The Deweyville Swing Bridge carries State Highway 12 across the Sabine River at the Texas-Louisiana border, connecting Deweyville with rural Calcasieu Parish. It was built in 1936-38 as a joint project of the Texas and Louisiana highway departments using Depression-era federal relief funds, with a rotating center span that allowed boats to pass. Regular openings ceased in the 1960s and the span last opened in 1995. It is the oldest surviving swing bridge of its design in Texas and was added to the National Register in 2011.
