History

Flinn Cemetery lies along Petronila Creek in southwestern Nueces County on land that became part of Edward A. Flinn's ranch, purchased in 1914, and was used as a burial ground for ranch families and workers. The site sits within the old Santa Petronila land grant, and local tradition — supported by hand-carved markers and a family Bible — holds that some graves may predate the first documented 1918 burial by many decades. Fewer than a dozen weathered markers remain in the now-isolated cemetery.
